La Gaie Famille - Charvensod

La Gaie FamilleThe ballets
The Fléy is the typical rhythmic instrument for the orchester of the Gaie Famille from Charvensod. It’s apercussion instrument, staffed by a hard stick of apple tree or ashwood, about 1,15 m long. Its ends are concave, thicker than the same stick and are adorned by multicoloured little bells and ribbons.

You can rest the Fley on the left shoulder, holding by the same side hand, while the other hand hits with a very short piece of wood in alternation the frontal and back side.

The outcoming sound is strong and powerful, but the little bells give a higher shrill tone.

The melodic rhythm remembers the old sounds of the wood and country works: at he beginning the Fley was the main hand-tool for the corn threshing. According the legend someone broke the Fley of a young farm-worker who, to prevent derision, went on hiting on the fley: so originated this instrument, which is distinctive exclusively for the Gaie Famille of Charvensod.
